Fabulous Prizes
So I asked Lorn and Max what I should post on my blog to make it interesting. Lorn's immediate response was "I want to see some short stories, slave." Max agreed, so every once in a while I'll post a short story up here.
Here's the problem, though: I don't just have a bunch of short stories sitting around. I have a lot of fragments of stories, most of which aren't fit for human consumption, and many of which date back to when I was 12 or 13. There are some old ones in here. Trust me, you don't want to see those. So the point is I'm going to write a short story, then post it.
Here's where you come in!
I want you guys to leave comments saying things you would like to see in a story. Maybe I'll write a whole short story about it, maybe I'll write a scene or two, maybe I'll include them all in a crazy mash-up melee. I don't know, I've never done this before. But leave your suggestions, and I'll see what I can do with them.
I expect to do this on a regular or semi-regular basis for a long while, so I need lots of material. Your suggestions may not make it into this first story, but I'll keep coming back and looking at your ideas in the weeks to come.
Suggestions can be anything that you like to see in stories, from "I want a story with bold philosophical underpinnings" to "I want to see gnomes in capes." Whatever. I'm going to start writing tonight, and I'm going to try and post it within the week...which means that it won't be edited. We'll be lucky if it's even legible. Still, I'm going to try and get it done.
Which means that then you guys will get to help me edit it. Yay for editors!
If you leave a comment with story suggestions, +32 points. Remember, the game is Serious Business.
That's all for now, and thanks for reading!
EDIT: Heh heh heh. I just found a fragment of a story, and I think I'm going to start expanding it into a real one. This is a sample: "John reached in to hang up his jacket, but instead of a coat hanger he found a pack of snarling raptors."
I find that amusing.
EDIT: A month in, and I still have not written a story. I'm getting bogged down in the planning process, and I need to just cut my losses, bite the bullet, and write the thing without a completely prepared outline.

I think you're doing it wrong
ReplyDeleteI know the title went up way before the text; I had a problem with some of the settings in the Posting section of the blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's cool now.
"The little robot that could"
ReplyDeleteSo, I sat here trying to think of something interesting, and of course with my thinking, I give you a weird subject: There is a man who's never looked into a mirror throughout his life, just by random happenstance. When he finally does, he realizes that he has no face of his own, that everyone sees the face that they want to see.
ReplyDeleteHave fun? Haha
A corporation producing cybernetic implants that enhance humans' physical and intellectual abilities controls the world in 2349. Your scene is a meeting of its central committee. They are there to discuss the disturbing trend of evolution that has come in human DNA that is challenging their product supremacy, namely, MAGIC (Mutations Actualizing Genetic Imaginative Concepts) that allows some humans to manipulate reality with their brains. The truly disturbing thing is that while these effects started small, they are becoming larger as more individuals are exposed to the MAGIC collective forming in Ocala, Florida.
ReplyDeleteGO!
See, the best part of that is that you included an acronym.
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah. That was the point.
