Fasting

So it's about time for this fast to end. Just sayin'.

Our church has been collectively fasting for a period of three weeks, so that we can devote the time we save to improving our spiritual lives. This is difficult. Heck, I didn't even give up food: I gave up entertainment on the computer, which for me essentially means anime, manga, and webcomics.

What did I learn in the past few weeks? Well, first of all, it turns out I tend to fill any free minutes I happen to have by surfing the web. And if I stop doing that, I have a lot of free minutes...so for these three weeks, it's felt like I've had a lot of free time.

There are several things you can do with a lot of free time. The first thing I did was, of course, to learn Sanskrit. I read a lot of my Bible, read several novels, and wrote a lot. I did my homework on time. I caught up with people on Facebook. I spent more time than usual on the phone. I became so good at Fuuga Clan ninjutsu that I was finally able to defeat my master. I even started exercising regularly, though I hope this is a trend that doesn't continue.

It turns out that when I'm not being distracted by flashy media, I get a lot more done. Usually I have to force myself to write, because it IS work even though I enjoy it, but without those other things writing is actually the thing I look forward to the most.

So basically, I'm getting a lot more done, I'm way more productive, and I can't wait for this stupid fast to be over. I'm going to sit down and watch anime until my brain oozes out my ears and pours down my shoulders in a steaming mess.

But here's the part of the blog that I know everyone is waiting for...the points! Yes sir, I know you're asking yourself how you can get a nice slice of fresh and tasty points pie. Well, here it is: if you post something in the comments, anything, to which I reply "Awesome!" you have won +87 points.

Secretly, this is just another chance for me to display my blatant favoritism.

That's all for now, and thanks for reading!

  1. In just a few days, I'm now on chapter 217 of Hunter x Hunter. I've been pleasantly surprised after starting it, I wasn't sure how good it was going to be. Now I'm glad I was in it for the long haul.

I'm going to be working out after I get back into living condition from not eating for like 21 days... lol

Your jutsu mastery reminds me.. I totally need to track down a nine-tailed fox demon to imprison in an unborn Japanese child, and leave the parents with the specific message to teach him the English phrase, "Believe it" which should be used after practically every sentence. Just because it's even MORE annoying in English.

  2. Awesome!

And yeah, I told you Hunter x Hunter was great. It's actually way better than Yu Yu Hakusho, if only because the HxH magic system makes sense.

The English Naruto voice actor...I'd say I hate him, but I guess he does his best. It must suck to have to try and make an irritating character cool with terrible lines.

  3. They say a diet is only useful if you keep at it for a considerable period of time; otherwise, when you drop it, not only will the effects cease, but you'll binge for a couple of days to reward yourself and catch up on missed eating as you fall back into old routines.

Unless you become a monk, but then you'd be pretty boring.

  4. At least WoW cards aren't involved in the fast. That would be unfortunate.

  5. Neither WoW cards nor novels. I think I would crumble to dust and ash.
