Of Ghosts and Spiders

The title of this blog: The Ghost and the Spider.

Why?

First and most importantly, the name wasn't already taken on blogspot. It sounded cool, it's kind of easy to remember, and it's original. I'll take it.

However, the name comes from a story I half-wrote a few months ago. The story deals with an organization whose agents had a ton of superpowers. These superpowers were mostly named after significant creatures: if you can turn invisible, you're a Ghost. If you can spin a web to detect intruders, you're a Spider. Et cetera, and so on.

There are seven of those powers, and everyone in the organization can use at least one; the story focuses on the only guy who can use all seven.

The plot doesn't really exist and the main character doesn't have much of a personality, but the superpowers ended up being pretty cool. Also, it gave me a neat name for a blog.

Anyway, that's where the name came from. Hopefully one day I'll finish the story, and then I can post it.

So I know that wasn't much information at all, but comment and tell me what you think! If you want to hear more about that story, say so. If you don't want to, say that. If you have a great idea related to something I said in this post, say it.

If you comment on any of those things, +25 points to you. If your comment has nothing to do with this post, or if you don't comment at all, 0 points.

These points are extremely important. Trust me.

That's all for now, and thanks for reading!

  1. Does the person who can use all seven powers find a mystical ring in a camp site bathroom that awakens his latent dragon powers which allow him to open the portal to the magic world and overcome the master's of our world?

That sounds like an interesting story.

    -15 for Lorn.

  2. I edited out the -15 points part, because a woman I know told me she was scared to post because she might lose points.

I think she was actually serious.

And no, no mystical rings for him. That would be severely overpowered, if he got seven superpowers AND was some kind of a dragon.

  3. You should post a story so I can read and comment.

  4. Wait, would they be male vampire princesses, or the (legendary and possibly mythical) female vampire princesses?

  5. Well, with 12 kids, you've got quite a mix. There are female princesses, male princesses, and male princes. No female princes, though.

    At least, not yet.

  6. Sounds like an interesting concept. What time period would it take place in? Any ideas on that yet?

  7. Well, +25 to you.

Time period? I'm leaning towards modern, with a closed magic system (where the general populace is unaware of the supernatural, etc). Not sure, though.

By the way, if anyone wants to know:

    Hound: Interrogation/Investigation

Turtle: Barriers/Shields (these guys get made fun of. They call themselves "Titans," but everyone else calls them Turtles)

    Ghost: Invisibility/Infiltration

    Spider: Detection/Communication

    Wolf: Combat

    Phoenix: Healing/Construction

    Falcon: Travel

It sounds like I'm building a totem pole.

  8. Well, there were a lot of beliefs about the abilities of those creatures from the Indians (read: Native Americans). Could have been their presence in the world from older times that inspired their beliefs.

I like the fact that there would be interplay between the 'Turtles' and other castes of the powers. Would make it interesting, especially if some time later they have to play a pivotal role that then generates the respect of the others.

Oh, there we go.. I forgot I could just use my google account. Now you can see my name. :D
